Five Actions to Boost Your Confidence

Being confident makes life feel easier, yet it’s something that many of us struggle with.
You might think you have imposter syndrome, you may be allowing the fear of failure stop you or you may simply have a lack of self-belief. Whatever the thing is that is contributing to your lack of confidence, you can be certain that it is holding you back.
When I reflect back on the times when I lacked confidence, I can tell you that I didn’t handle the situations I was in to the best of my abilities. My overriding thought was, I want this to be over and my inner critic, Vera, was having a field day pointing out all the things that were going wrong and could go wrong.
Whereas when I’ve allowed myself the freedom to just be in the moment and worry less about my perceived inadequacies, the outcome has been very different. I’ve been able to think more clearly. I’ve been able to focus. I’ve even enjoyed the moment.
And the secret for me, and to being confident, is being comfortable being me. This is what fuels my confidence and means I will have a go even if something is new or filled with uncertainty.
So, I do believe that confidence is something that can be nurtured and strengthened over time. And the great news is it relies on nobody else. Just you. It starts by adopting simple habits that over time will boost your confidence and lead you to achieving the success that you desire.

Cultivate a Growth Mindset
The way we think about ourselves and our abilities can have a significant impact on our confidence and success. Those with a fixed mindset believe that their abilities are set in stone and can’t be changed. On the other hand, those with a growth mindset believe that their abilities can be developed and improved over time.
To boost your confidence and achieve success, it’s important to cultivate a growth mindset. This means embracing challenges, seeing failure as an opportunity to learn and grow and being open to feedback, knowing it’s up to you what you do with that feedback.
I believe everyone is capable of changing, if they want to. The quickest way to do this is by taking action and trying stuff. You will find that your confidence will get stronger more quickly the more you practice. So, take the smallest action necessary that will get you started and then don’t stop.
Be Kind to Yourself
The way we talk to ourselves can have a powerful impact on our confidence and self-esteem.
Turning up the volume of your inner critic can undermine your belief in yourself and your ability to succeed. On the other hand, showing yourself some compassion can help build confidence, resilience, and a positive outlook.
So when something doesn’t quite go according to plan, remind yourself that it’s a learning opportunity and that you did your best. Don’t dwell. Pause, reflect and then decide what your next best move is.
Celebrate Your Successes
Celebrating your successes, no matter the size, is an important part of building confidence. When we acknowledge and celebrate our achievements, we reinforce our belief in our abilities and our potential for future success.
It’s time to start making celebrating your success a habit. Take time to acknowledge your progress, treat yourself and reflect on your achievements with pride. By celebrating your successes, you’ll build confidence, stay motivated, and achieve even greater success in the future.
Surround Yourself with Positive People
The people we surround ourselves with can have a significant impact on our confidence and outlook on life.
It’s time to become aware of the people you are spending time with. Do you feel energised by their presence and look forward to being with them? Or, are you minimising the amount of time you spend with them because they have the ability to drain you of any positivity?
Make a conscious decision to surround yourself with the right people for you and see how differently you start to feel.

Practice Self-Care
Self-care is essential for building and maintaining confidence. When we take care of ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally, we feel better about ourselves and our abilities. On the other hand, neglecting self-care can lead to burnout, stress, and low self-esteem.
It’s important to make self-care practices a daily habit. It’s your opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate. It’s not a luxury, it’s essential.
It’s not about spending loads of money and it doesn’t have to take up a lot of time. It’s about finding what works for you and that easily fits into your day. It could be as simple as going for a 10 minute walk.
Building confidence is a journey, not a destination. It’s something that we need to continually practice otherwise it will start to deteriorate. So, be kind to yourself, celebrate your successes and keep pushing forward.
With time, effort and commitment, you can build confidence and achieve the success you deserve. Take the actions above to heart, and watch as your confidence and success soar.
