Confidence starts from within
What does a confident person look like?
Is it that person who is the centre of attention and is easily able to speak to anyone about anything?
Or, is it that person who can quietly sit alone in the room observing what is going on without feeling self-conscious or the need to join in?
Confidence is all about how you feel. It’s about how you feel about yourself and how you feel about any given situation. If you are confident in yourself then it is easier to feel confident in different situations.
By doing the work to be confident in yourself you are creating a strong foundation from which you can more easily walk into new situations.
Get comfortable in your own skin
It’s time to reconnect with who you are so that you can like yourself again and then love yourself.
I invite you to look in the mirror, deep into your own eyes, and tell yourself 5 things that you like about yourself. This is not a one off exercise. The key to becoming comfortable with who you are is consistency. For this to work you need to do this daily. Each day find another 5 things that you like about yourself and why it is great to be you.
Yes it will feel awkward at first but with time it will become easier and your focus will become more about how amazing you are which will help to make you feel more confident.
Acknowledge how far you’ve come
Where you are today is a combination of your achievements as well as overcoming some challenges. It’s got nothing to do with luck and everything to do with the type of person you are and how you choose to view life.
It’s time to acknowledge what your capabilities, strengths and skills are and to take the time to do your happy dance in celebration of all that you have become.
Stop worrying about what others think
Worrying about others is a waste of time. I can assure you that they are not spending as much time worrying about you. And if they are, that says more about them than about you.
What others think of you is none of your business. What is more important is what you think about yourself. So, start being aware of your thoughts and how you’re talking to yourself.
Notice when you start focusing on the negative and either distract or interrupt your thoughts so you can start to focus on the positive.
Stop comparing yourself to others
Comparing yourself to others is also a total waste of time. We are all unique individuals who have experienced life differently. Therefore, comparing yourself to anyone is like comparing a banana to a shoe!
We have our own path to follow which is just for us and influenced by our journey so far. So use your energy to stay in your own lane.
Start trusting yourself
It’s really simple, rather than looking to others for validation start trusting yourself. Look for evidence that shows you that you can. Times when you’ve made a good decision or used good judgement. Then use this to bolster your confidence.
Becoming more confident starts with you. Only you can be the catalyst that changes your belief that you are not confident. It’s about adopting healthy habits that help you to see that being confident takes practice.
