You have the power to press pause

In these modern times, it can feel like we are always on the go. Always doing something. Compelled to fill up our time with doing.
How would it feel to just stop?
To take the time to be more conscious in life?
To actually decide, what is next?
It may not feel like it but it is up to us how we spend our time. We do have the freedom of choice. Unfortunately, we usually choose to be busy. Busy doing things that don’t always matter to us.
I invite you to become more aware of how you are choosing to spend your time. Become curious about the decisions you make and why. Give yourself permission to pause, even if it’s for just 10 minutes, and reflect. To look at where you are in life and where you want to go. Sometimes a break is just what we need to recharge our batteries so that we can feel motivated to go do what is right for us.
As a busy working mum, I used to think that the only time I was going to get a break was when I was sleeping. And that wasn’t always guaranteed as my children would occasionally have other ideas!

I now know that we all need a break. We all deserve a break.
This could be just 5 minutes alone to sort out the thoughts in our head or even a little longer if you need some space and time to make a big decision.
The thing is, we often wait for someone to give us permission to stop. We think that if we just stop, even though it’s temporary, others will judge us. But remember, what others may or may not think of us is really not important and none of our business. It’s about what we think of ourselves and what we need.
The real question is, how often do you stop to reflect on where you’ve been and confirm where you want to go?
Never, sometimes, occasionally, regularly?
Since stepping off the corporate bus nearly 6 years ago, this is something that I now do regularly. One of the biggest lessons I learnt when I made that decision was that if I want to stop getting swept along with life I need to be more conscious about how I’m living.
For me, the easiest way to do this is to pause occasionally. I have to be really disciplined in doing this as I’m great at being busy.
So what does that look like?
Reflect
Acknowledge the road that you have already travelled. Notice all the good things that have happened. Be proud of the challenging moments you have overcome.
Celebrate your life
We can become complacent in life and forget to celebrate all the awesome moments, although we’re great at dwelling on the not so good moments. Refocus your attention and pat yourself on the back for every time you’ve achieved something, no matter the size.
What’s next
It’s time to decide what’s next. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, although I always encourage my clients to dream big. It just needs you to decide instead of just going with the flow. You’re never going to get to where you want if you don’t know where that is.

Have a plan
It’s okay not to know exactly how you’re going to get to where you want to go but you’ll have an idea as to the steps you could take. Use what you do know to come up with a plan, the rest will become clearer in time.
Take action
The only thing left to do is press play and take the first step to where you want to go. You may be filled with fear or you may be excited. Whatever the feeling, you know that it is the right move for you right now.
You don’t always have to be on the go. You can choose to stop. Look back to see how far you’ve come and then decide what is next.
