Life Will Always Be Busy. The Question Is, What Are You Avoiding?
Let me guess.
You opened this while juggling something else.
You’ve also got a to-do list that feels impossible.
And your day will be crammed from the moment you wake until the moment you finally collapse into bed.
I’m also thinking that chances are, you’ve postponed any time for yourself because there’s always something else that needs your attention.
At some point, I bet you’ve probably told yourself that you’re lazy, broken, or failing. All of which are wrong.
You’re not lazy.
You’re not broken.
You’re not failing at life.
You’re too busy. And busy has become your normal.
Being busy gives you a reason not to stop.
Being busy keeps you moving just enough to avoid looking too closely.
Being busy, believe it or not, becomes the shield that protects you.
Having said all that, I know you know that things have to change. You just don’t know how.
One thing’s for certain, life isn’t going to suddenly calm down so you can finally deal with what you’ve been avoiding by being busy.
When Being Busy Becomes Your Protection
So life is ‘full’. Taken up by family, work, friends and commitments.
And yet, you feel empty, stuck and maybe even numb.
Doing more isn’t helping. You’re just keeping busy to avoid the things you know need attention.
You regularly say to yourself:
“I’ll think about it when things ease up.”
“I don’t have the headspace right now.”
“Next month will be better.”
But you know ‘next month’ will never come and so nothing will change.
What You’re Really Avoiding
It’s rarely about time.
It’s about the conversation you don’t want to have.
The decision you know will change things.
The part of you asking for more when you’ve built a life around coping.
Busy keeps you safe from rocking the boat.
It keeps expectations low.
It avoids disappointment.
It also keeps you exactly where you are.
You won’t find the answers if you’re exhausted.
Five Ways to Break the Cycle
Name what doesn’t feel right
You don’t need the full answer. You just need the question: “What isn’t sitting right for me?”
Notice where ‘busy’ shows up first
In other words, when do you suddenly find five more tasks to do? That’s a clue.
Stop waiting for motivation
Action leads to change. What’s one small step you can take today to break the cycle?
Give yourself space
Ten minutes of focused thinking can give you clarity you won’t find in a crowded day.
Let it be uncomfortable
Change feels awkward, uncertain, and uncomfortable. So stop trying to avoid it.
How I Help
If you’re ready to do something different and you’re looking for some help, I’m here.
I offer ‘The Shift Sessions’, three 90-minute coaching sessions designed to put you back in the driver’s seat of your own life and act on the changes you already know you need to make.
What happens inside the Shift Sessions:
We uncover the real root of what’s keeping you stuck (it’s rarely the presenting problem)
We identify the patterns, beliefs, and internal stories you’ve been living under
We reconnect you to your own voice – the one that’s been drowned out by shoulds, guilt, and expectations
And we give you the courage, clarity, and permission to act on what you already know is right for you
Imagine This Instead
Imagine waking up without that background heaviness.
Imagine knowing your next step, even if it feels stretching.
Imagine making choices from clarity rather than obligation.
Busyness no longer runs the show.
