Life doesn’t look how it should: 5 actions that will make it different
Life now is not what you’re used to.
It looks different.
It feels different.
It even sounds different.
What happened?
A life event, that’s what’s happened.
You may have recently retired and are feeling a little lost but you want to take full advantage of your new freedom.
You may have recently gone through a divorce and are feeling incomplete but want to make a life for yourself.
You may have recently been made redundant and are feeling like you don’t know what to do next and want to find the right path for you.
You may have recently become a mum and are feeling like you’ve lost your identity and want to feel comfortable being you.
You may have recently set up your first business and are feeling like you’re out of your depth and are ready to make your business a success.
Whatever new circumstance you find yourself in, accept that the power is in your hands. You can do this.
This is just the next chapter of your life. A chapter that you can write in any way you wish and it can only be written by you. It all starts with having the courage to take the first step towards where you want to go and believing you can get there.
To help you get started, here are five questions for you to answer.
Who do you want to be?
When life as you know it changes, remember what happens next is down to you. If you want life to change, it starts with you. It’s not about changing to please others, it’s about becoming really comfortable with who you are. It’s about creating a solid foundation so that you can deal with anything that life throws at you.
Who do you want to be? Who do you want to see when you look in the mirror?
How do you want life to be?
It all starts with you deciding how you want your life to be. What do you want it to look like and how do you want it to feel?
Remember, where you are right now doesn’t have to be permanent.
Don’t be shy and don’t hold back. Go big. It’s your life and it should be whatever you want it to be.
Don’t restrict yourself or put limitations on what you can or cannot do. Remember you create your reality so make it a good one.
What habits do you need to nurture?
Over time we pick up many habits, some that serve us and others that bring us down, even if they make us feel good initially.
Nurturing good habits will make life feel easier and over time be just part of the way you live your life, in the same way you don’t have to remember to brush your teeth and wash.
So take some time out to decide which habits you want to keep, which ones need to be replaced and any new ones you want to create.
What actions will get you there?
You now have a lot of things that you desire, which is great, you have your vision of life. Now is the time to make it real and to put in the work so that it can become your reality.
What actions will you take to get you from where you are to where you want to be?
This may feel overwhelming. Maybe a mixture of excitement and ‘oh my goodness how am I going to make that happen’.
Keep it simple. Decide what actions you need to take and what is your priority. Remember to make all your actions small and achievable so that you will remain motivated.
Get started
You have everything you need to move away from where you are and towards where you want to go. It’s about taking small consistent actions daily so that you can continue to move forward.
If something doesn’t quite turn out how you thought don’t give up. Pause, reflect and then decide your next best move. Plus celebrate when things do go right, no matter the size. This will keep the momentum going and continue to motivate you.
You see, we don’t have control over circumstances that we may find ourselves in. However, we do have control over what happens next and how we respond to those circumstances.
You get to decide so do what is right for you.
