Have you reached a crossroads?

When we first went into lockdown I was so impressed and inspired by the community spirit and how supportive the population was being. Clapping for the NHS on Thursday. Communities pulling together to help the vulnerable. People supporting local businesses who had adapted what they were doing to survive. Thousands of volunteers stepping forward to keep things going despite these challenging times.
But with everything that has been going on in the world in the last couple of weeks. I’ve taken the time to stop and reflect on 2020 so far. Reflect on what I’ve seen and heard. Reflect on what’s happening around the world. Reflect on life.

My conclusion is simple. I think we should be learning how precious life is. We should be grateful for what we have. We should be looking to make a positive impact.
I can’t remember another year, in my lifetime, where so many global issues have occurred in one year, and we’re not even half way through it yet. This tells me that we’ve hit a crossroads. We either choose to take action or do nothing. Doing nothing, for me, means I will leave this planet in a decaying state for my children and grandchildren. And I’m not just talking about our environmental issues. However, going through lockdown has shown me that anything is possible if we really want to make a change.
So, I’m choosing action.
I’m going to be making some changes. Changes that will make me feel like I’ve not only listened to what is going on but I’m doing something about it. Doing something that shows I’m taking action to move things in the right direction.
I want to be conscious of how I’m using my voice
I’d like to think that I’m an honest individual. Ask me what I think and I will tell you. I may not find the right words, but I hope I get my point across. But it’s more than that. It’s about being more vocal about what’s right. It’s about being more vocal about what is possible. And always, with a focus on the positive action. Sometimes this is easy. Sometimes this takes courage.
I want to be more focused on how I’m using my energy and time
Time is a very precious commodity. So why shouldn’t I use it more wisely? I want to be certain that I’m investing my time doing the things that matter. By having a bit more focus it’s amazing what can be done instead of being sidetracked by the noise and the unnecessary. This is not just about doing the day to day stuff. I mean helping and supporting others too.

I want to support the people who really matter
This one is so important and I’m not just talking about my family and friends but thinking bigger than that. Finding causes, people and events that I feel a connection with. That I want to support.
So as I sit at this crossroads, watching the world go around. Observing the noise as well as taking in what really matters. I will continue to think about exactly what taking action looks like in reality. As well as, the specific actions I’m going to take. And I will make progress.
