Why You Can’t Seem to Make Progress (Even When You’re Trying Everything)
Do you ever feel like you’re doing everything right, ticking all the boxes, putting in all the effort, and still nothing changes?
You’re exhausted, frustrated, and a little bit fed up with yourself.
You know you’re capable, you know you’re committed, and yet somehow, life still feels stuck.
I see this with the women I work with.
High-achieving mums who’ve done everything “right”—career, kids, relationships—but somewhere along the way, they’ve lost themselves.
The drive, the clarity, the connection to who they really are.
The problem isn’t effort, it’s identity.
Your actions, no matter how determined, aren’t fully in sync with who you really are, and that’s why progress feels impossible.
Why You’re Stuck
Trying harder doesn’t work if you’re disconnected from yourself.
You can push, plan, schedule, and grind, yet if your choices don’t reflect who you are, you’ll end up going nowhere.
It’s exhausting, confusing, and discouraging. Your inner critic loves this cycle, telling you it’s your fault, that you should be doing more, achieving more and being more.
Progress happens when your actions align with your identity.
When you know who you are, what matters to you, and where you want to go, momentum starts to happen naturally.
You stop fighting yourself and start moving with yourself.
5 Practical Steps to Start Moving Again
Here’s what you can do so that you can start to progress:
Get Clear on What Really Matters
Write down the areas of your life that feel out of balance. Then, underneath each, note what you truly want, not what you think you “should” want. This is about reconnecting with your core values.
Identify Your Energy Drains
Notice where your energy goes each day. Are there people, commitments, or routines that leave you feeling flat? Choose one thing to reduce, delegate, or eliminate this week. Small shifts here create space for what matters.
Reconnect With Yourself Daily
Spend 10–15 minutes a day doing something that nourishes your identity. It could be reading, walking, journaling, or even just sitting with your thoughts. This is how you remind yourself who you are.
Take Actions That Feel Natural
Pick one small action each week that aligns with your values and identity. For example, saying no to an obligation, speaking up in a meeting, or making time for a hobby. These are the actions that actually create progress.
Question the Story You’re Telling Yourself
Whenever you notice thoughts like “I’m not doing enough” or “I’m failing,” pause and ask, “Is this really true?” Often, it’s just your inner critic, not reality. Rewriting the story you’re telling yourself changes everything.
What It Feels Like When Things Shift
These practices won’t give you a dramatic overnight transformation.
Over time, you’ll start to notice small changes—more calm, more clarity, and more confidence in your choices.
You’ll begin to trust yourself again, and that’s when the progress will happen.
Take the First Step Today
If you’ve been trying everything and still feel stuck, you don’t need another course, book, or motivational quote. You need a space to pause, reflect, and get real about what matters to you.
