Is life a balancing act?

Nov 17, 2021 | Random stuff

As a mum, juggling used to be my thing. I don’t mean actually juggling balls. I mean juggling doing lots of things. I was proud of my ability to juggle.

The thing is, juggling is exhausting and stops you from featuring in your life. It becomes more about your family and satisfying their needs. Rather than focusing on yours.

Besides, when you do have the time you probably don’t have the energy and so you don’t bother.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to juggle.

JUST STOP.

Stop juggling and see what happens.

I don’t have to tell you that we should be enjoying life not just taking part. It’s about enjoying the ride. Yes, it’s about your journey.

There will be highs and lows. There will be drama. There will be challenges.

But, there will also be ‘wow’ moments. Moments that if you’re not careful you’ll miss.

You see, if you’re always striving to reach your destination you’re not able to appreciate the here and now. And as Eckhart Tolle says, ‘we only really have now’. Now is where the magic happens.

Life cannot and will never be perfect. But it can be amazing, if you let it.

So rather than striving for that perfect balance develop your balancing ability.

fun

For me, it all started when I became a mum. Up until then, it was more like reaching for that utopia of balance. I thought my imbalance was my career. I thought that I needed to find a career that complimented my new priorities, now that I was a mum.

It was that imbalance that that started my journey to finding out what I really wanted to do in life. I had great fun trying new things and deciding what my next best move was. Which eventually led me to start my business, Mummy on a Break.

What I’ve learnt is, that throughout life we experience times where we feel out of balance. Where something doesn’t quite feel right. Where we feel stuck. This is our cue to focus on that area so that we can go back to balancing life.

In the name of balancing, this year my focus has been my mindset.

Being in business can prove to be very challenging. It’s a great breeding ground for imposter syndrome as well as giving my inner critic, Vera, plenty of ammunition. I know that if I have a strong mindset then I am better able to deal with the curveballs that life throws at me. I know that this investment is definitely worth it if I want to continue progressing and reach my goals.

How about you? Are you balancing life?

Or, do you feel out of balance?

Maybe you’re not sure. Here are some things that will help you.

Notice your thoughts

Be more aware of the thoughts that seemingly just pop into your head. Get curious and try to understand what they are really telling you. A thought is not just a thought. It is not innocent. It gives us great insight into what we want, what we fear and how we see life.

Notice your feelings

Be more aware of how you are feeling. Especially when you are feeling uncomfortable. Take notice of why that might be. What is it that has made you feel that way? How can you change things? How can you refocus so that feeling is helpful?

Remember your inner child

Our childhood is great at reminding us of what we want in life. During childhood, we haven’t yet accumulated the baggage that is now holding us back. We are more likely to say yes rather than react with a no.

Daydream

Daydreaming is great. It’s an opportunity to create a world where anything is possible. No restrictions. No limitations. Just the possible. How does that differ from your reality? Are you playing small because it’s safe and easy? What would it be like to turn up the volume and make your life what you really want?

Focus on what’s important

At the end of the day, what’s really matters is being comfortable in your own skin. Being grateful for you and your life right now.

Life can be really noisy. So much so that we lose sight of what’s important and we just become numb to what’s going on. So take the time to remember what’s important. And if nothing else, focus on that.

Life is not about finding the balance but continuously balancing as we experience the ups and downs of the journey that we’re on called life.

Where’s the imbalance in your life?
