How will you deal with lockdown, again?

Nov 4, 2020

The world is a very challenging place at the moment. There’s lots going on. There’s lots of uncertainty in what’s going on. And our natural reaction is to look for answers. To make the uncertain certain.

The thing is life is not like that. In life, we have things that are not in our control. And trying to do something about them is actually a waste of effort. But we can control our actions. We can control our reactions to what is happening. It is our choice how we see things.

Rather than focusing on the issue, that you can’t affect, look for what you can do. You’ll be surprised at how resourceful you can be. The reason being, that if you narrow your focus to just the issue you’re limiting what you see. Instead, keep your eyes wide open and you’ll be able to see possible opportunities.

So, we’re on the verge of a second lockdown. And believe it or not, we do have some choices.

We could spend time and effort focusing on the negative but what would that achieve. We might feel better initially for expressing our disappointment but actually we’ll end up feeling worse, eventually. This is because all we can see is the negative.

Instead, use that time and effort to make the best of the situation. By changing your focus, you will start to feel better. You will see the opportunities that are around you. You will have the energy to take action.

The first step is to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What did I like about the first lockdown? How can I focus my attention more on what I liked?
  2. What did I find hard during the lockdown? What can I do to ease the impact of this? How can I manage it better?
  3. How is this lockdown different? What can I do to make the most out of being less restricted?

Your answers will help you to focus your energy on what you want more of as well as preparing you to deal with the more challenging aspects of lockdown. You are now armed with what you could do instead of dwelling on what you can’t.

It is now up to you on what you do. Will you take what you know from the first lockdown and use it to your advantage and make the best of the situation. Or will you choose to settle for ‘what will be will be’ and hope you survive this period of time.

Remember it is your choice how you react to what is going on as well as the actions you take.

How will you choose to handle it?
