Are you celebrating the small stuff?

Celebrating

With the world being a bit upside down at the moment, I’ve come to realise that it is important now, more than ever, to celebrate more. And when I say celebrate more, I mean celebrating everything no matter the size.

We are living in a fast-paced society. Where you need to be constantly running so that you don’t go backward. Or so it feels.

I want to keep up. I want to keep moving. I don’t want to be left behind.

The problem is, by being on this treadmill, that doesn’t seem to have an off button, we are in danger of missing the small stuff. The things that truly matter in our lives. We become so focused on the destination that the journey loses its meaning.

Crossroads

However, the journey is where all the excitement is. The journey is where all the interesting stuff happens. The journey is where all the memories are made. The journey is what life is actually about.

So what am I trying to tell you?

I’m trying to say, that it’s important to have our focus on the here and now. We need to retrain ourselves to focus on the present. And for me, that starts with celebrating the small stuff.

By celebrating the small stuff, we have to remain in the here and now otherwise we’ll miss it. You see, all of those things that we deem ‘small’ when added together are huge.

Look at it this way, if each small celebration is like finding a penny then as you collect more your wealth will grow. You will then look forward to finding those pennies. And you will start to feel more wealthier than you ever thought.

But how do we start?

Very simply, just find 5 minutes each day to reflect on your day. Find just one thing that happened in the day that was good, positive or made you smile. Then notice how it made you feel. Hold onto that feeling. If you repeat this daily it will eventually become a habit. Something you look forward to.

Now I’m going to take it one step further, as I don’t like to do things by halves.

I’m celebrating the small stuff

I’ve decided to start my own crusade to encourage you to celebrate the small stuff. To create a community that actively looks to celebrate the small. To actively encourage you to collect the pennies.

But it doesn’t stop there. I’m also starting #CelebrationSaturday in the Newman house as I want to get my family involved too. Every Saturday we’re going to have a mini party which will include a takeaway and maybe a specially made cake. This started last Saturday.

So go collect the pennies
